Cambria Wierman had a match-high 16 kills to help the Lady Cats snap a four-match losing streak with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 PSAC sweep over Millersville University, Friday night in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 11-9 overall, 7-7 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats raced out to a 9-3 lead on Wierman's kill. Millersville answered with two straight points, but Pitt-Johnstown went on a 12-4 run capped by
Delaney Roman's ace and an error by the Marauders before cruising to a 25-12 win.
In set two it was the Marauders who jumped out to an early lead. Four straight Lady Cat attack errors put Millersville in front 12-4. However, it was all Pitt-Johnstown the rest of the way. Pitt-Johnstown outscored Millersville 21-9 to win the set 25-21. The Lady Cats battled all the way back to tie it at 19 on
Kendall Mahony's kill, before another kill from Wierman gave the Lady Cats the win.
Pitt-Johnstown started off strong in the third set with a 7-1 lead with a kill by
Nikki Oakes. Millersville fought back to narrow it at 9-7 on back-to-back service acres from Taylor Smith. That's as close as it would get as the Lady Cats pulled away. Roman's kill extended it to 21-10 and Pitt-Johnstown went on to complete the sweep. 25-13 on two straight kills from Wierman.
Mahony and Roman both collected ten kills and Wierman added eight digs to go along with her 16 kills. Oakes had 36 assists and five digs, while
Devan Orr gathered 14 digs and Roman added seven. Roman and Oakes also each had four service aces apiece.
Erin Harmon collected seven kills for the Marauders, who fell to 9-13 overall, and 3-11 in the PSAC.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC match against Shippensburg University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Point Park University for a non-conference match on Tuesday.
