Bill Luther scored 20 points, and Pitt-Johnstown broke open a tie game with a 16-2 second half run on its way to a 78-67 PSAC Western Division victory over Clarion University, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats improved 12-9 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

Two Demarius Miller free-throws three minutes in gave Clarion a three-point advantage, but Pitt-Johnstown outscored the Golden Eagles 22-7 over the next nine minutes to build a 12-point lead of its own.

A.J. Leahey's basket at 14:00 put the Mountain Cats in front for the first time at 8-7. Rasaun Mosely then connected on two from the free-throw line to extend it to eight, before two straight
Jake Laravie lay-ups made it 26-14 with 8:03 left in the half.

Clarion came back with 13-4 spurt to cut it to 30-26 on two more free-throws from Miller at 3:33, but the Mountain Cats quickly pushed it back out to seven, before taking a 34-29 lead into the half.

The Golden Eagles scored the first six points of the second half to regain the lead by one.

However, the Mountain Cats outscored the Golden Eagles 16-2 over a five minute span to build a 14-point lead. Luther connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to extend it to eight, before a basket from
Nate Snodgrass midway through the second half gave Pitt-Johnstown a 60-46 advantage.

The Golden Eagles answered with a 12-2 run to cut it to 62-58 with 6:05 to play, but that was as close as it would get.

Leahey's 3-pointer just under a minute later made it a nine-point advantage and the Mountain Cats went on to the victory.

Luther finished with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and seven rebounds to pace three Mountain Cats who scored in double figures. Snodgrass had 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Leahey added 10 points and five rebounds.Â
Matt Palo collected eight points, and
Paul Weatherly tallied six points and seven rebounds.

Luther is currently 16
th on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,151 points and third on the career-3-Point Field Goals List with 246.

Pitt-Johnstown ended the night shooting 46.4% (26-56) from the field, 8-18 from 3-point range, and 18-25 from the free-throw line. Clarion was held to just 29.7% (22-74) shooting. The Golden Eagles were also 8-29 from behind the 3-point line and 15-18 from the charity stripe.

Mike Kromka had a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds, and Marques Jones chipped-in 19 points for Clarion, which dropped to 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats travel to Slippery Rock University for a PSAC game on Saturday, before hosting a conference doubleheader with the Lady Cats against Seton Hill University on Saturday, February 15 in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 1 p.m. followed by the Men's game at 3 p.m.
