Erik Tapper opened scoring for the Lightening less than five minutes into the game after taking a shot from 20 yards out, sending the ball past Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Nate Kleya for a 1-0 lead.
In return, the Mountain Cats answered in the 33
rd minute with a goal from
Kevin Neskie who headed int the ball following a throw in from
Erik Etter to tie the game, 1-1.
After a scoreless second half, both teams continued their battle in overtime where Goldey-Beacom secured the win in the 98
th minute. Mateus Silvestre sent a through ball to Omar Hernandez, who tapped it inside the left post to score the game winning goal for the Lightening, and set the final score at 2-1.
Kleya suffered the loss in goal after facing 15 shots and making nine saves.
Suhail Bismilla earned the win in goal for Goldey-Beacom after seeing 12 shots from the Mountain Cats and making three saves. Goldey-Beacom improved their record to 5-9 overall.
The Mountain Cats travel to Bloomsburg University for a PSAC match on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., before returning home to host a conference match against California University (PA) on October 21 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Â
