Marissa Erminio had a match-high 14 kills and three blocks, and
Cambria Wierman added 10 kills and 10 digs to help the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team close out the PSAC Crossover in the Sports Center at 3-1 with a 3-sets-to-1 victory over California University (PA) on Saturday. The Lady Cats improved to 19-3 overall and 12-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division.

After dropping the first set 25-21, Pitt-Johnstown answered with 25-16, 25-20, and 25-23 wins to close out the Vulcans.

Ashley Leto's kill helped California (PA) climb out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set. The Vulcans increased it 13-8 on a Danielle Hayes' kill and a Pitt-Johnstown attack error, before the Lady Cats cut it to one on
Kendall Mahony's service ace. Ermnio's kill and a California (PA) ball handling error helped Pitt-Johnstown knot it at 19, but two Mary Lavery kills eventually gave the Vulcans a 25-21win.

In the second set, Pitt-Johnstown erased a two-point deficit earlier in the set to go in to tie it at 13. The Lady Cats then used a 7-1 run, capped by Erminio and
Madeline George kills, to build a 20-14 lead. Another kill by George and a California (PA) error made it 23-13, and the Lady Cats evened at one set apiece with a 25-16 victory on Wierman's kill.

Pitt-Johnstown fell behind 7-4 to start the third set, but came back to outscore the Vulcans 8-2 to take a 12-9 lead on
Maura Brehl's kill. It remained close the rest of the way, until the Lady Cats scored the final four points, including
Devan Orr's ace that sealed the 25-21 win.

Brehl's kill put the Lady Cats up 8-5 in the fourth set, but California (PA) got another kills from Hayes and took advantage of a Lady Cat error to retake the lead 11-9. Four ties and four lead changes later, the Vulcans got two straight kills from Miranda Fouzie go in front 18-14. Pitt-Johnstown battled back with a 6-1 run, highlighted by three straight points from Mahony that made it 20-18. The Vulcans were able to tie it at 20, but the Lady Cats increased it back to 24-20 and held on 25-23.

Along with Erminio and Wierman, Mahony had nine kills, three aces and a pair of blocks and Brehl had nine kills and three blocks for the Lady Cats.Â
Allison Mondorff finished with five kills, 27 set assists, 15 digs and three aces.

Pitt-Johnstown also got 15 assists and a dozen digs from
Jessica Dillon, 29 digs and three aces from Orr, and 17 digs from
Delaney Roman.

California (PA) was led by Lavery's 13 kills and Hayes' 12 kills. With the loss, the Vulcans fell to 8-15 overall and 6-7 in the PSAC Western Division.

The Lady Cats host a non-conference match against Shepherd on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a PSAC Eastern Division match against West Chester University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
