Volleyball Rebounds From Loss to Sweep Griffins in Crossover

Johnstown, PA

Box Score 3092
Cambria Wierman had 11 kills and six digs, and Madeline George and Maura Brehl each had 10 kills, as Pitt-Johnstown bounced back from Friday's loss to sweep Seton Hill University, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, in Saturday's first match of the PSAC East-West Volleyball Crossover in the Sports Center.  The Lady Cats improved to 18-3 overall and 11-1 in the PSAC East.

A Wierman kill and two straight Seton Hill errors gave Pitt-Johnstown at 6-2 lead to start the first set.  The Griffins narrowed the gap to one on six occasions, with the last coming at 13-12 on Katie Wenson's kill.  The Lady Cats then pushed it back out to four on Brehl's service ace, before Marissa Erminio's kill and another Seton Hill error put Pitt-Johnstown in front 20-13.  The Lady Cats went on to close out the set, 25-19, on Brehl's kill.

In the second set, Seton Hill used a Rachel Satira kill and a Pitt-Johnstown ball handling error to open up a 7-3 lead, but the Lady Cats clawed back to tie it at 11 on back-to-back Griffins' attack errors.  Seton Hill got its lead back out to three, before Pitt-Johnstown tied it 20 on Brehl's kill and took its first lead of the set at 21-20 on Wierman's kill.  The Lady Cats never trailed after that, and got kills from Kendall Mahony and Marissa Erminio to seal the 25-23 win.

Looking for the sweep, Pitt-Johnstown built an 8-2 lead on Allison Mondorff's kill and a Seton Hill attack error.  George's kill increased the Lady Cats' advantage to 14-6, but the Griffins answered with a 13-6 run to pull to within one at 20-19 on Jessica Beal's kill.  Pitt-Johnstown came right back to outscore Seton Hill 5-2, and close out the sweep, 25-21, on Wierman's 11 kill of the match.
