Cal U Defeats Mountain Cats with an Early First Half Goal

3110Nathan Delgado scored the lone goal of a 1-0 California University (PA) PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown men's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon in Johnstown. The Mountain Cats slipped to 1-14-0 overall and 0-9-0 in conference-play.

Five minutes into the game, Delgado blasted a shot off of the post into the goal past Pitt-Johnstown keeper Nate Kleya to give the Vulcans an early 1-0 lead.

A battle between both teams resulted in a scoreless second half, leaving the Mountain Cats unable to find the back of the net as the Vulcans maintained momentum holding onto the lead for the win.

Kleya suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after facing 21 shots and making seven saves against the Vulcans.

Lucas Exner earned the shutout win for California University (PA) after seeing nine shots and making three saves. The Vulcans are now 7-6-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the PSAC.

The Mountain Cats travel to Gannon University for a conference match on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., before returning to host their final home nonconference match against Shepherd (WV) University on October 26. Pitt-Johnstown will close their season with a conference match on October 31 at Slippery Rock University.
