Meryhurst University netted two goals in the second half to build off of a 1-0 lead at halftime for a 3-0 PSAC victory over the Mountain Cat soccer team, Saturday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 1-9-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference-play.
A majority of the first half remained scoreless until Eyale Dagne finished a cross into the box from Hunter Burri in the 42
nd minute, sending the ball past Mountain Cat keeper
Nate Kleya to put the Lakers on the board.
With a 1-0 lead at half, a shot from Hunter Burri bounced off of the crossbar paving the way for Ruaidhri McGuire to rebound in the box for a Lakers goal in the 57
th minute.
Nearing the end of regulation time, Michael Blancato sent the ball to the far post from the left side of the field in the 86
th minute to secure a 3-0 victory for Mercyhurst.
Kleya suffered the loss in goal for the Mountain Cats after seeing 23 shots and making seven saves.
Daniel Lowton earned the win in goal for the Lakers with a shutout after facing eight shots from Pitt-Johnstown and making three saves. Mercyhurst improved to 4-7-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the PSAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to West Chester University for a conference match on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., before returning home to host a PSAC match against Lock Haven University on October 10 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Â
