Taylor Hoover drove in all three runs in Pitt-Johnstown's 3-2 victory over California (PA) in Friday's PSAC West Opener at Richland Elementary School, but the Vulcans answered with a 3-0 win in the nightcap to secure the doubleheader split. Pitt-Johnstown is now 5-21 overall and 5-13 in the PSAC West.

In game one, Pitt-Johnstown score three runs in the bottom of the third inning and held of the Vulcans, 3-2.

Amanda O'Toole to give Pitt-Johnstown a 3-0 third inning lead.

California (PA) answered with a run in the fourth and one more in the seventh, but
Melissa Wagner was able to work out of the late inning jam by getting Lindsay Reicoff to fly out to right field for the game's final out.

Wagner pitched a complete-game in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown and held the Vulcans to just two runs on seven hits. Wagner improved to 2-11.

Hoover doubled and drove in all three Mountain Cat runs, while
Karlie Tomich singled and doubled for Pitt-Johnstown.

In the nightcap, the Vulcans scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, and California (PA) pitcher Meghan Uher did the rest by holding the Mountain Cats to just two hits in the 3-0 victory.

Shannon Wittig singled and double to account for Pitt-Johnstown's only hits off of Uher.

Rachel Hoffman tossed all seven innings for Pitt-Johnstown but suffered the loss and dropped to 3-10 after surrendering three runs (2 earned) on eight hits.

Uher allowed just two hits and fanned 10 Mountain Cat batters to improve to 6-2 on the season.

With the split, the Vulcans are now 18-9 overall and 12-5 in the PSAC Western Division.

Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC West doubleheader against Seton Hill on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Richland Elementary School, before traveling to Edinboro for a pair of conference games on Sunday.Â
