Mercyhurst University swept a pair of PSAC Western Division games from the Pitt-Johnstown team, Thursday afternoon at Iron Horse Complex. The Lakers earned a 3-1 win in the opener, before completing the sweep with a 1-0 victory in the nightcap. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 3-15 overall and 3-7 in conference-play.

In game one, Mercyhurst jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on Courtney Brother's two-run single, before Pitt-Johnstown cut it in half with a run in the fifth when
Stephanie Seibert singled-home
Amber Maurer. However, the Lakers added an insurance run in the sixth and went on to the 3-1 win.

Rachel Hoffman went 2-for-3, and
Taylor Hoover and Seibert each had base hits for Pitt-Johnstown.

Melissa Wagner suffered the loss and fell to 1-8 in a complete-game effort. Wagner allowed all three runs, bur but just two were earned. Wagner scattered seven hits, struck out five, and walked just two.

Brothers had two hits and a pair of RBI to lead Mercyhurst's seven-hit offensive attack.

Alexandra Puckly picked-up the win in relief of starter Annie Truelove. Puckly held Pitt-Johnstown scoreless on two hits over the final 2.1 innings to improve to 4-6.

In game two, Francesca Costanzo's second-inning solo homerun accounted for all of the scoring in Mercyhurst's 1-0 victory.

Pitt-Johnstown, which was held to just two hits, got singles from
Marley Elbin and Hoffman.

Hoffman took the loss after allowing just run on nine Lakers' hits in seven innings of work. With the loss, Hoffman slipped to 2-6 on the season.

Along with Costanzo's homer, Mercyhurst also got three hits from Becky Malaga and a pair of hits from Taylor Jezuit.

Heather Nye evened her record at 1-1 after giving up two hit and not allowing a run over the first five innings. Puckly pitched the final two innings to earn her first save.

With the sweep, Mercyhurst improved to 8-14 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC-West.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Clarion for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, before hosting PSAC Western Division doubleheaders against Indiana University (PA) on Sunday and Slipper Rock on Monday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to be played at Richland Elementary School.
