Amber Maurer drove in two runs in the opener, before adding three more RBI in game two to help the Pitt-Johnstown softball team sweep Mansfield University, 6-2 and 12-6 in Friday's PSAC Central, opener at Richland Elementary School. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 5-10 overall and 2-0 in conference-play.

In game one, Maurer's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth helped break open a one-run game and give Pitt-Johnstown the 6-2 victory.

After falling behind early, Pitt-Johnstown tied it in the second inning when
Allessa Morrison scored from first on a wild pitch and a throwing error by Mansfield catcher Hanna Secord.

Pitt-Johnstown then added single runs in the third and fifth innings, before scoring three more in the sixth. Maurer's double to deep centerfield chased home
Kayla Luprek and
Ashley Shor to make it 5-2, and
Morgan Cannin's RBI single plated Maurer to set the final at 6-2.

Marley Elbin went 4-for-4 with an RBI, and Cannin added three hits and drove in a run for Pitt-Johnstown. Maurer singled, doubled and had two RBI, and
Taylor Hoover collected an RBI.

Melissa Wagner tossed a complete-game in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown to raise her record to 2-7. Â Wagner held the Mountaineers to just two runs (1 earned) on six hits, while striking out five and walking one.

In the nightcap, Mansfield opened-up a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with five in the bottom of the frame and three more in each of the third and fourth innings on its way to the 12-6 win.

Shor had three hits and two RBI, while
McKenna Kern and Maurer drove in three runs apiece for Pitt-Johnstown. Cannin had two hits and a pair of RBI, and Elbin and Morrison each had an RBI.

Emily Moore surrendered four runs in the first two innings, but settled down and held Mansfield tow just two more runs the rest of the way in the complete-game effort. Moore, who evened her record at 3-3, gave up the six runs on 14 hits. She also fanned four and walked one.

Melanie Taylor and Casey Pearce had three hits each for the Mountaineers.

With then losses, Mansfield fell to 8-11 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC Central.

Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC Central doubleheader against Clarion University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Richland Elementary School. Before traveling to Lock Haven University for another conference doubleheader on Friday.Â
