Men’s Soccer Sinks Ship in 2OT For First Ever PSAC Win

Johnstown, PA

Box Score
3676Colin Michalski scored off of a scramble in the box 1:22 into the second overtime to lift the Mountain Cat men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Shippensburg University, Tuesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.  The win marked the Mountain Cats' first ever PSAC victory since joining the conference in 2013.  Pitt-Johnstown is now 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference-play.

It didn't take long for Pitt-Johnstown to get on the scoreboard.  Just over a minute into the match, the Mountain Cats took advantage of an own goal when a ball played back to Shippensburg goalkeeper got past him and found the back of the net.

The Mountain Cats maintained that lead for the rest of the first half, and the first 38 minutes of the second half.  However, with just under seven minutes left in regulation, Patrick Luebben's header off of Marc Furfaro's cross found the back of the net behind Mountain Cat goalkeeper Nate Kleya to knot the score at one.

3671Following a scoreless first overtime, Haven Mackie dribbled into the box, had the ball deflected into the goalkeeper, before Michalski blasted the rebound past Shippensburg goalkeeper Garrett Watson for the match-winner in the 102nd minute.

Kleya secured the victory in net for the Mountain Cats after facing 33 shots, making 15 saves, and surrendering one goal.  Watson suffered the loss for Shippensburg, which slipped to 3-2-0, overall and 1-2-0 in the PSAC.  Watson saw nine Pitt-Johnstown shots, made two saves, but allowed both goals.

Pitt-Johnstown begins a stretch of seven straight road matches with a non-conference match at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) on Saturday and a PSAC match at Millersville on September 21.  The Mountain Cats will play their next home match on October 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
