Minnesota State-Mankato climbed out to early leads in all three sets on its way to downing the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team in straight sets 25-20, 25-23, and 25-22 in Friday's Second Round of the 2016
Courtyard by Marriott Classic in Tampa, Fla.Â
Maura Brehl's nine kills and eight digs led the way for the Lady Cats, who slipped to 1-1.

Pitt-Johnstown fell behind 7-4 early in the first set, but scored the next four points to regain the lead 8-7 on
Kendall Mahony's service ace. Minnesota State-Mankato answered with six straight points to break a 15-15 tied and build a six-point lead.Â
Marissa Erminio's kill got the Lady Cats back to with three at 25-22, but two kills from Sydney Geisness and a Pitt-Johnstown error gave the Mavericks a 25-20 win.

Kills from Sarah Kuehn and Geisness helped Minnesota State-Mankato run out to a 10-3 lead to begin the second set, before Brehl's kill, followed by two Maverick's errors got the Pitt-Johnstown deficit down to 14-12. Minnesota State-Mankato extended its lead out to 20-14, and the Lady Cats answered again. This time to narrow it to 24-23 on a Mavericks' attack error, but Geisness' kill ended the set at 25-23.

Just like the second set, the Mavericks ran out to a 10-3 lead in the third set on three consecutive Pitt-Johnstown errors. A 9-5 Pitt-Johnstown run cut it to 15-12, then to 18-17 on Mahony's ace. However, the Lady Cats could not get any closer and Minnesota State-Mankato went on to the three set sweep with a 25-22 victory.

Erminio finished with five kills, while
Cambria Wierman had four kills, and Mahony had three kills, one block, and a pair of service aces for Pitt-Johnstown.

Allison Mondorff's 15 assists and
Jessica Dillon's eight assists led the Lady Cats.Â
Devan Orr collected a team-high 11 digs, and
Delaney Roman added six digs and two aces in the loss.

Geissness ended with a match-high 15 kills, and Krista Hassing chipped-in 13 kills for the Mavericks, who improved to 2-0.

Pitt-Johnstown concludes the Courtyard by Marriott Classic with matches against Franklin Pierce (NH) University and No. 7 University of Tampa on Saturday.
