Marissa Erminio had a match-high 11 kills to help the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team earn a 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 sweep at Slippery Rock in Friday's 2016 PSAC-opener. The Lady Cats improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 on conference-play.

Two straight kills from
Marissa Erminio followed by a kill from
Maura Brehl sparked an 8-0 run that gave Pitt-Johnstown a 10-2 lead to start the match. Slippery Rock answered to win the next two points, but a pair of Rock errors and back-to-back
Delaney Roman service aces increased it to 19-7. Slippery Rock tried to get back in it and narrowed the gap to 22-17 on Beth Stumpf's kill, but Pitt-Johnstown was able to close out the 25-17 win on kills by
Kendall Mahony and
Allison Mondorff.

In the second set, The Rock held a slim one point advantage to start, but a kill from Erminio and a Slippery Rock error quickly gave the Lady Cats a 7-4 lead. Pitt-Johnstown built it to 19-14, on went on to take a 2-sets-to-none lead with the 25-16 victory.

Caitlin Vrabel and Brehl combined for four straight kills,
Logan McIntosh added a service ace, and
Tatiana Pitcher followed with a kill to help the Lady Cats open-up a 15-7 lead in the third set. Pitt-Johnstown never let Slippery Rock get closer than six the rest of the way.  Leading 19-13, the Lady Cats got two kills from
Cambria Wierman in a 6-3 spurt to close out sweep with the 25-1 win.

Along with Erminio's 11 kills, Mahony had eight kills, four blocks, and two service aces, while Wierman chipped-in eight kills for the Lady Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got six kills and three blocks from Brehl.

Mondorff finished with a match-high 31 set assists and 10 digs.Â
Devan Orr had 13 digs, McIntosh collected 11 digs, and Roman tallied eight digs in the sweep.

Stumpf led the way for Slippery Rock with eight kills, and Leah Jones had seven kills for The Rock, who fell to 7-7 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Edinboro for a PSAC match on Saturday, before making its 2016 home debut with Homecoming Weekend conference matches against Mercyhurst on September 30 at 7 p.m. and Gannon on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
