
After being swept at Millersville University a few weeks ago, the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team, ranked third in the Atlantic Region, returned the favor with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 sweep over the Marauders behind 13 kills from
Marissa Erminio, Friday night in the Sports Center. With the win, Pitt-Johnstown improved to 23-7 overall and 13-4 in the PSAC Central to move one step closer to hosting a First Round PSAC Tournament match on Tuesday.
Millersville took a 10-7 first-set lead on a Lindsey Blevins' kill, before Pitt-Johnstown answered to tie it at 12 on
Kendall Mahony's kill and take a 14-12 lead on Erminio's kill. The Marauders came back to knot it at 15, but the Mountain Cats scored the next four on kills from Erminio and
Cambria Wierman, and went on to take the set, 25-21 an consecutive Millersville errors.
In the second set, Pitt-Johnstown ran out to an 11-4 advantage on kills by Wierman and Mahony. Millersville answered to outscore the Mountain Cats 12-5 to tie it at 16 on another kill from Blevins. After the Marauders went back on top by one, Wierman collected three kills to close out a 6-0 Pitt-Johnstown run that gave the Mountain Cats a 25-20 victory and a two-set advantage.
With their back against the wall, the Marauders started fast and raced out to a 13-6 lead in the third set. That didn't stop Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats clawed their way back in it and narrowed it to 18-16 on a ball handling error by Millersville. The Marauders the increased back to four, but Pitt-Johnstown scored the final seven points to complete the sweep with the 25-22 win on Erminio's kill.
Erminio finished with a match-high 13 kills and eight digs, while
Caitlin Vrabel eight kills for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got seven kills from
Maura Brehl, seven kills, 15 digs and two blocks from Wierman, and five kills and a match-high seven blocks from Mahony.
Allison Mondorff collected 19 set assists and eight digs, and
J.C. Longeville had 17 assists and nine digs.
Devan Orr, the PSAC's all-time leader in digs, chipped in a match-high 28 digs and three assists.
Millersville, which slipped to 17-10 overall and 8-9 in the PSAC Central, was led by Blevins' nine kills and 11 digs and Erin Harman's eight kills, 12 digs, and four service aces.
Pitt-Johnstown close out the 2017 regular season with Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m., before beginning the 2017 PSAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
