Marley Elbin connected for a two-run home run to lift the Pitt-Johnstown softball team to a 2-1 victory in Sunday's first game of a non-conference doubleheader against Shippensburg at V.E. Erickson Complex. Pitt-Johnstown then built a four-run lead in the nightcap, before breaking a tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete the sweep with a 5-4 win. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 8-6.
Â
In the opener, Shippensburg scored a run in top of the third inning on Maddie Mulhall's sacrifice fly, but Elbin's two run home run to right field in the bottom of the inning quickly gave the lead to Pitt-Johnstown.
Â
That was all Pitt-Johnstown starter
Melissa Wagner needed. Wagner allowed one run on four hits, but just one hit, a Chloe Collins double in the fourth inning, after Pitt-Johnstown took the lead. Wagner, who improved to 5-2, also struck out four and didn't allow a walk.
Â
Elbin went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, while
Morgan Cannin and
Amanda O'Toole also had hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Â
In game two, Pitt-Johnstown struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cannin and
Montana Mang each singled, and Cannin scored on
Taylor Hoover's double.Â
Kelsey Feeney followed with a double to right field that chased home Mang and Hoover to make it 3-0.
Â

Mang's double in the Pitt-Johnstown second inning plated Cannin to increase it to 4-0, but Shippensburg got a solo home run from Meghan Klee to lead off the third that cut it to 4-1.
Â
The Raiders added two more in the fourth, and tied it at four in the sixth on Kendall Geis' RBI single up the middle.
Â
However, Pitt-Johnstown answered with the eventual game-winner in their half of the sixth.Â
McKenna Kern advanced to second on a two-base error by Shippensburg centerfielder Macy Luck to lead off the inning, moved to third on
Amber Maurer's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Cannin's single to left.
Â
Emily Moore held the Raiders scoreless in the seventh to earn the complete-game victory. Moore improved to 2-4 after giving up four runs (3 earned) on 12 hits.
Â
Cannin and Mang both went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Feeney drove in two for Pitt-Johnstown.
Â
With the losses, Shippensburg slipped to 15-10.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown opens PSAC-play with a doubleheader at Mansfield on Friday, before hosting a pair of conference games against Lock Haven on Saturday at 1 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
