After earning a 3-1 win in Friday's opener of a PSAC doubleheader against Clarion in Butler, Pa., Pitt-Johnstown got homeruns from
Dan Clark,
Zach Zinn, and
Dylan Kerstetter in a 16-0 victory in the nightcap. The Mountain Cats improved to 16-22 overall and 6-12 in the PSAC Western Division.
In game one, Pitt-Johnstown scored all three of its runs in the first inning and got a complete-game five-hitter from
Brantley Rice in the 3-1 win.
Brett Hileman went 3-for-4 with a runs scored, while
Mason Prickett had two hits for the Mountain Cats.
Joe Gagliardi accounted for Pitt-Johnstown's lone RBI.
Rice, who improved to 5-2, held Clarion to just one run on five hits in seven innings. Rice also fanned six and walked three.
In game two, the Mountain Cats broke open a three-run lead with 13 more runs over the final four innings to complete the sweep with the 16-0 win.
Zinn belted a 3-run home run in Pitt-Johnstown's six-run fourth inning, while Clark connected for a two-run homer in the six, and Kerstetter added a solo shot in the Mountain Cat seventh.
Clark was 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, and Zinn had three hits, including the 3-run homer, and scored three runs for Pitt-Johnstown.
Jack Shirk collected three hits and an RBI, and
Dillon Boyer had a pair of hits and drove in two. The Mountain Cats also got two hits and an RBI from Gagliardi.
Walker evened his record at 3-3 after holding the Golden Eagles scoreless on three hits over the first five innings.
Ty Treaster and
Eric Ford pitched an inning each and didn't allow a hit.
With the losses, Clarion dropped to 9-24 overall and 3-15 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown will complete the four-game PSAC series with a doubleheader at Point Stadium on Saturday starting at noon, before opening a home-and-home four-game conference series against No.1-ranked Mercyhurst on Friday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
