
The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team made it three straight wins and improved to 13-10 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC Central Division with a 25-20, 25-10, 25-14 sweep over Bloomsburg University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
Maura Brehl's match-high 13 kills and 11 digs led the Mountain Cats.
Pitt-Johnstown used an 8-2 run to build a 13-6 first-set lead on
Noelle Carota's service, before Bloomsburg got a kill from Mary Kate Mooney and a Grace Giza block to cut it to 13-11. The Huskies were able to pull to within one at 18-17, but the Mountain Cats quickly increased it back out to four on
Hailey Mackenthun's ace, and sealed the 25-20 win with kills from
Caitlin Vrabel and Brehl.
Following Carota's kill early in the second set, Pitt-Johnstown added five more points off of
Erin Carmody's serve to race out to a 12-4 lead. The Mountain Cats continued to pour it on and went on to outscore Bloomsburg, 13-6 the rest of the way. Brehl's kills got Pitt-Johnstown lead into double digits at 16-6 and a combined block from
Grace Miller and
Rebecca Miller wrapped-up the 25-10 win.
In the final set, the Mountain Cats broke a 7-7 tie with six straight points, including a pair of
Grace Miller kills, to go in front 13-6. Pitt-Johnstown never let Bloomsburg get closer than five on it way to completing the sweep with a 25-14 win behind kills from Vrabel and
Shaelyn Foy.
Brehl finished with a match-high 13 kills and 11 digs, while Carota had nine kills, a pair of aces and 15 digs, and Vrabel added nine kills for Pitt-Johnstown.
Grace Miller chipped-in seven kills and two blocks.
J.C. Longeville collected a match-high 35 set assists and eight digs, and Carmody had three assists, an ace and a match-high 16 digs for the Mountain Cats.
Sarah Gomish's six kills, and Giza's five kills and four blocks paced Bloomsburg, which fell to 5-15 overall and 1-10 in the PSAC Central Division.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC matches at Gannon on Friday and Mercyhurst on Saturday, before returning home to host conference matches against Edinboro on October 26 at 7 p.m. and Slippery Rock for Senior Day on October 27 at 1 p.m.
