Dan Clark had two hits and drove in a pair for Pitt-Johnstown, but Concord (WV) University erased a 3-run deficit with runs in the bottom of the fifth to sweep the two game weekend, non-conference series with a 16-5 victory, Sunday afternoon in Athens, W.Va. The Mountain Cats slipped to 1-4.
Pitt-Johnstown struck for three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Jack Shirk's single through the left side scored
Tyler Smith from third and Clark followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Concord came right back with eight runs in its half of the fifth, highlighted by Paul Williams' three-run double, but the Mountain Cats got an RBI double from
Dakotah Byers and a Sacrifice fly from
Dylan Kerstetter in the sixth to cut it to 8-5.
Concord added another run in the seventh on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, then broke it open with seven more in the eighth.
Along with Clark, the Mountain cats got a got a single, a double and an RBI from Shirk and two hits and an RBI from Ketstetter.
Dylan Heid took the loss in relief of starter
Ben Foose after surrendering five unearned runs in Concord's eight-run fifth inning. Foose pitched the first 4 1/3 innings and held the Mountain Lions to three runs (2 earned) on four hits. Foose also struck out four and walked two.
With the win, Concord improved to 4-3.
Pitt-Johnstown travels the University of Charleston (WV) for a 3-game series on Saturday and Sunday, before visiting East Stroudsburg for a 4-game series on March 10 and 11. The Mountain Cats will make their 2018 home debut at Point Stadium with a three-game series against Shippensburg on March 16-17.
