The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats softball team dropped their spring break Finale to the Hillsdale (MI) College Chargers 7-6 Saturday afternoon in Clermont, Fla. The Mountain Cats fell to 2-8 on the season and the Chargers improved to 6-6.
The Mountain Cats got on the scoreboard first when
Morgan Cannin reach on an error, then advanced to third on a
Taylor Hoover single.
Ali Belgiovane brought home Cannin with a single to make it 1-0.
Hillsdale College answered in the bottom of the inning when Sam Catron blasted a two-run home run to give the Chargers the lead. The Chargers added a run in the bottom of the second inning to make it 3-1.
In the fourth,
Stacey Walling reached on an error,
Bree Ginther pitch ran and came around to score on a Belgiovane single to make it 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hillsdale College scored four runs capped off on an Amanda Marra 2 rbi single to increase the lead to 7-2.
Pitt-Johnstown cut into the lead in the final frame; after a
Kristie Radvan single,
Marley Elbin pinch ran.
Montana Mang had a pinch hit single, followed by a Cannin RBI single.
Jade Stubblefield blasted a three-run homerun to make it 7-6.
Offensively, the Mountian Cats were led by Cannin who finished the day going 2-for-4, scoring two runs with a RBI. Stubblefield went 1-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs
In the circle for the Mountain Cats, Kristan Coffay took the loss. Coffay finished with three-innings pitched, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out three.
Coffay relived by Mellisa Wagner who went 1 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on six hits.
Ashley Pagliei finished the game for the Mountain Cats, pitching 1/3 innings, giving up zero runs on zero hits and walking one.
The Mountain Cats concluded their spring-break trip and are scheduled to take on Gannon University March 17.
