Millersville Takes Pair of Non-Conference Games From Pitt-Johnstown

Millersville, PA

5165Bree Ginther doubled home a pair of runs for Pitt-Johnstown in Wednesday's non-conference opener at Millersville, but the Marauders held on for a 7-3 win, before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory in the nightcap behind Emma Bevard's no-hitter.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 8-16 on the year.

In game one, Pitt-Johnstown erased an early three-run deficit, but the Marauders outscored the Mountain Cats 4-0 the rest of the way to seal the 7-3 win.

Millersville jumped out to a 3-0 first inning advantage, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with three in the top of the second.  Stacey Walling and Ali Belgiovane each singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on Ginther's double to center.  Ginther then scored from third on a double steal to tie knot it at three.

However, the Marauders regained the lead with a run in the fourth, before adding four more in the fifth, highlighted by Kaelyn Buskey's two-run home run.

Kristen Coffay suffered the loss in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown and fell to 4-5 after surrendering seven runs (5 earned) on 10 hits in a complete-game effort.  Coffay also struck out seven and walked two.

In game two, Millersville broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, and used Bevard held the Mountain Cats hitless to secure the sweep with the 3-0 win.

Brevard didn't allow a hit or a run and fanned five for the Marauders.

Nicole Burke scored an unearned run in the fifth off of Pitt-Johnstown starter Melissa Wagner to open the scoring and Buskey followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Faith Willenbrock then led off the Marauders' sixth with a solo homer that set the final at 3-0.

Wagner took the loss for the Mountain Cats after giving up three runs (1 earned) in six innings.  Wagner also struck out eight and walked just one.

With the sweep, Millersville improved to 19-14.

Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC Central doubleheader against Clarion on Friday at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex, before traveling to Bloomsburg for two more conference games on Saturday.
