Seton Hill finished strong in the opener, then ran out to an early lead in the nightcap on its way to a 9-2 and 9-4 PSAC Western Division sweep over the Mountain Cats, Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.
Tyler Smith drove in three runs for Pitt-Johnstown, now 9-24 overall and 6-14 in conference-play.
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown's
Dylan Heid and Seton Hill's Don McWreath locked up in a pitcher's duel in the early going, but the Griffins were able to break open a one-run game with eight runs over the final three innings in the 9-2 victory.
Seton Hill scratched out an unearned run in the bottom of the third when Tyler Sullivan scored from third on Jordan Fiedor's ground out.
The Griffins made it 4-0 in the fifth on Carl Turner's two-run home run to center and Adam Bankovich's RBI single.
Seton Hill then broke it open with five runs off of Pitt-Johnstown reliever
Raymond Watt in the sixth, before Smith's two-run single got the Mountain Cats on the board and set the final at 9-2.
Watt took the loss and fell to 1-6 after allowing four runs (3 earned) on five hits over the first 4 2/3 innings. Heid also struck out four and walked four.
Smith had two hits and drove in a pair, while
Dan Clark doubled for the Mountain Cats.
In game two, Seton Hill took a quick 3-0 first inning lead, then added five more in the second on its way to completing the sweep with the 9-4 victory.
After falling behind, Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases in the third and came away with one run on Clark's fielder's choice that plated Smith, and got another in the fourth on Smith's sacrifice fly, but it wasn't enough.
Clark tripled and drove in a run, while
Jack Shirk and Smith also had had an RBI apiece for the Mountain Cats.
Braxton Roxby took the loss and dropped to 1-2 after surrendering five runs on three hits in the opening inning.
With the sweep, Seton Hill improved to 18-17 overall and 12-8 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown hosts a PSAC Wester Division doubleheader against Clarion on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m. at Point Stadium, before wrapping-up the four game series next Saturday in clarion.
