Maura Brehl collected 15 kills and 11 digs, but Walsh (OH) University won the final two sets to defeat the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team, 3-1, in Saturday's final round of the Walsh Tournament in North Canton, OH.
Brehl and
Noelle Carota were named to the All-Tournament Team.
After dropping the first set 25-20, Pitt-Johnstown rebounded with a 28-26 win to knot it at one set apiece. However, Walsh followed with 25-21 and 25-23 wins to seal the four-set victory.
Along with Brehl, Catilin Vrabel had 11 kills and four block assists, and Carota tallied eight kills, eight digs, and a pair of block assists for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also got seven kills from tatiana Pitcher and six kills from
Lauren Gechter.
J.C. Longeville finished with 24 sets assists and seven digs, and
Morgan Yurkovich chipped-in 23 assists and seven digs.Â
Erin Carmody had a team-high 22 digs for the Mountain Cats.
Walsh, which improved to 3-5, was led by Lauren Loucks' match-high 19 kills and Justin Coffman's 10 kills.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to the West Liberty/Wheeling Jesuit Tournament next weekend, before opening PSAC-play at Clarion on September 14 and at Indiana University (PA) on September 15. The Mountain Cats will make their 2018 home debut with PSAC matches against California (PAP on September 21 at 7 p.m. and Seton Hill on September 22 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played in the Sports Center.
