Mercyhurst Deals Mountain Cats PSAC Loss on Homecoming

Johnstown, PA

Mercyhurst scored four first half goals and went on to deal the Mountain Cat men's soccer team a 6-0 Homecoming loss, Saturday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.  The Mountain Cats slipped to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference-play.
 
Henri Tophaven's goal just over two minutes into the match off of Connor Wilkinson's throughball gave the Lakers a quick 1-0 lead.
 
Mercyhurst added a goal from Mario Castel in the 20th minute, and one from Ruben Calvo three minutes later, before Tophaven scored his second goal of the match, a breakaway off a Austin Baraona's throughball in the 42nd minute, that put the Lakers in front 4-0.
 
Mercyhurst tacked on two more second half goals, including a penalty kick from Wilkinson in the 58th minute, that set the final at 6-0.
 
Jonathan Reboton suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after seeing 28 shots, making nine saves, and allowing all six goals.
 
Martin Jarc and Alfredo Gallo each played 45 minutes in goal to share the shutout for the Lakers.
 
With the win, Mercyhurst improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the PSAC.
 
The Mountain Cats are back in action on Wednesday with a PSAC match at Seton Hill, before returning home to host a conference match against nationally-ranked Gannon on Saturday at noon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
