Fast Start Helps Mountain Cats Cruise By Ohio Dominican, 94-76

7903John Paul Kromka had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks and the Mountain Cats used hot shooting to build a 35-point first half advantage in a 94-76 non-conference win over Ohio Dominican University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown improved to 3-1.
 
Pitt-Johnstown held the Panthers to just five points over the first 12 minutes of the game and continued to extend its lead.
 
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Caiden Landis and Kromka gave the Mountain Cats an 8-0 lead to start, before Joe Batt's layup at 11:23 made it a 20-point game at 25-5.
 
A pair of 3-pointers from Adam Kline and a Marcin Wiszomirski jumper at 8:25 put Pitt-Johnstown in front 33-5.
 
7897Just four minutes later, Drew Magestro connected on a 3-pointer and Landis scored in the paint to give the Mountain Cats their largest lead of the day at 43-8.
 
Ohio Dominican closed out the half on a 12-5 run to narrow the gap to 48-20 at the break on buckets from Sam Hickey and Ethan Hayes.
 
Pitt-Johnstown got the lead back out to 29 on a Josh Wise layup two minutes into the second half, but the Panthers clawed back to within 18 at 62-44 on two more of Hickey's game-high 30 points with 11:10 to play.
 
However, Jared Jakubick's basket at the 7:11-mark got extended it back out to 25 and Pitt-Johnstown coasted to the 18-point victory.
 
Kromka finished 26 points on 10-12 shooting, including 2-3 from 3-point range and 4-6 from the free-throw line to lead a balanced Pitt-Johnstown scoring 7901attack.  Joe Batt and Jakubick scored 13 and 11 points, respectively off the bench, while Wise had nine points, four rebounds, and five steals.  The Mountain Cats also got eight points and a game-high 10 assists from Fred Mulbah, eight points from Kline, seven points from Landis, and five points and six rebounds from Magestro.
 
After shooting 53% in the first half, Pitt-Johnstown increased it to 59.3% in the second half to end the day at 55.7% (34-61).  The Mountain Cats hit 10-23 from behind the arc and 16-23 from the free-throw line.  Ohio Dominican was held to just 38.8% shooting, including just 22.6% in the first half.  The Panthers were 9-28 from 3-point range and 15-19 from the charity stripe.
 
Hickey's 30 points led all scorers.  Hasan Vance collected 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Matt King scored 10 points for Ohio Dominican, which slipped to 1-2.
 
The Mountain Cats wrap-up a stretch of four straight home games and begin PSAC Crossover-play with games against East Stroudsburg on November 23 and Kutztown on November 24.  The women will tip-off each doubleheader at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m.
