Caiden Landis's 19 points paced four Mountain Cat double figure scorers and helped the Mountain Cats erased a nine-point halftime deficit in an 84-77 PSAC Crossover victory over Kutztown University, Sunday afternoon in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats have won five in a row and are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC Western Division.
Pitt-Johnstown, which shot 50% (25-50) for the game and held the Golden Bears to just 32.9% (23-70) shooting, was led by Landis' 19 points on 8-12 shooting.
John Paul Kromka had 15 points, seven rebounds, a game-high five blocks, and three steals, while
Fred Mulbah added 15 points and a game-high eight assists, and
Josh Wise scored 14 points.
Marcin Wiszomirski went 6-6 from the free-throw line and scored eight points and
Joe Batt chipped-in six points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Along with the strong shooting, the Mountain Cats were 32-42 from the charity stripe.
Neither team established any momentum until Kutztown used a 12-2 run over the final 2:28 of the first half to climb out to a 38-39 halftime advantage.
The Golden Bears maintained the lead until back-to-back buckets from
Drew Magestro and Landis with 14:16 remaining put Pitt-Johnstown in front 50-49.
Batt's 3-pointer midway through the second half got the Mountain Cat lead out to five and Pitt-Johnstown never trailed again.
Pitt-Johnstown extended the lead to as many as 11 at 76-65 with 4:54 left of Wise's dunk, then made 8-10 from the free-throw line in the final 2:36 to seal the victory.
Kutztown's Tarojoe Brake led all scorers with 30 points on 10-17 shooting, 5-11 from 3-point range, and 5-5 from the free-throw line. Ryan Bernstein had 14 points for the Golden Bears, who dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC East.
The Mountain Cats travels to the Puerto Rico Clasico to take on Puerto-Bayamon on Wednesday, Puerto-Rio Piedras on Thursday, and University of Sacred Heart on Friday, before continuing PSAC-play at Bloomsburg on December 7.
