Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Gannon on Senior Day

Pitt-Johnstown celebrated Senior Day, but Gannon came into the Sports Center and dealt the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team a 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 PSAC loss on Saturday.  The Mountain Cats are now 14-12 overall and 6-10 in the PSAC Western Division.
 
Prior to the match, the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball program recognized this year seniors…Noelle Carota, Anna Johns, and Caitlin Vrabel.
 
Gannon jumped out to a 13-7 first set lead on Ashley McClung's kill, but Pitt-Johnstown clawed back to make it 22-20 with Anna Johns' kill.  However, the Golden Knights scored the next three to take the set 25-22.  In the second set, Gannon scored five straight points to turn a three-point lead into a 19-11 advantage on kills from Ashley Kerestes and Ashley Beyers.  The Golden Knights never looked back got a kill from Lauren Sampson to take a 2-set-to-none lead with the 25-15 victory.
 
The Golden Knights completed the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set.  Three straight Gannon attack errors put Pitt-Johnstown on top 15-14, but the Golden Knights closed out the match with an 11-4 run.  Ally Smith's kill put Gannon on top 18-15, before Sampson and Smith ended the match with kills.
 
Pitt-Johnstown was led by Carota's 12 kills and six digs, and Vrabel's 10 kills.  The Mountain Cats also got eight kills and five digs from Tatiana Pitcher and four kills and a pair of blocks from Johns.
 
Pitt-Johnstown's J.C. Longeville had 33 set assists six digs, while Erin Carmody finished with a match-high 33 digs and Gabi DeRenzo tallied nine digs.
 
Gannon improved to 23-5 overall and 14-1 in the PSAC Northwest behind Smith's match-high 16 kills and 14 digs, and Sampson's 14 kills, four aces, and 10 digs.
 
Pitt-Johnstown wraps up the four-match home stand against Indiana (PA) on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before closing out the regular season with conference matches at Seton Hill on Friday at California (PA) on Saturday.
