
Clarion scored four runs off of five Pitt-Johnstown errors to earn a 4-1 victory in Friday's PSAC Western Division opener at Kelly Automotive Ball Park in Butler, but
Dylan Heid struck out 12 in five scoreless innings to help the Mountain Cats earn the split and close out the road portion of their schedule with a 4-1 win in the nightcap. The Mountain Cats are 22-20 overall and 10-14 in the PSAC West.

Jack Shirk doubled with one out in the Pitt-Johnstown third and scored on a Clarion throwing error to give the Mountain Cats the lead, but the Golden Eagles knotted it at one with an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

Clarion took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Fugh and Ben Barth each singled off of Mountain Cat reliever
Ben Briggs and moved up a base on a Pitt-Johnstown throwing error. Dan Fox followed with a two run, pinch hit triple to center that put the Golden Eagles on top, before another Pitt-Johnstown error allowed Fox to score that made it 4-1.

Kyler Mellott worked a perfect seventh inning to close out the complete-game victory for Clarion. Mellott allowed just one unearned run on four Pitt-Johnstown hits.

Ben Foose,
Tyler Smith, and
Lennox Pugh all singled to account for the four Mountain Cat hits.

Briggs took the loss and slipped to 3-1 after giving up three runs (2 earned) on three hits in two innings.Â
Braxton Roxby started and held the Golden Eagles to one runs on three hits over the first four innings.

In game two, Pitt-Johnstown jumped on Clarion starter Kyle Thompson for three first inning runs.Â
Dylan Kerstetter led off the game with a base hit, stole second, and scored on Shirk's double to the gap in right center. Two batters later,
Tyler Treese singled home Shirk and
Owen McKeever, who walked.

The Mountain Cats made it 4-0 in the third when
Zach Zinn drew a bases loaded walk.

Clarion got a run in the bottom of the sixth on Chandler Palyas' RBI double

Heid went the first five innings and held Clarion scoreless on two hits, doubles from Fugh and Cole Shaffer. Heid also fanned 12 and walked three to improve to 6-4.Â
Christian Pfrogner tossed the final two innings and surrendered a run on two hits.

Shirk doubled and drove in a run and Treese had a hit and an RBI to pace the Mountain Cats.

With the split, the Golden Eagles are now 18-28 overall and 8-18 in the PSAC West.

Pitt-Johnstown will close out the 2019 season and celebrate Senior Day with a PSAC doubleheader against Clarion on Saturday starting at noon at Point Stadium.
