LaDuke, Esser Lead Women’s Soccer to, 5-1, PSAC Win Over Clarion

Johnstown, PA

7436Abby LaDuke scored a pair of goals and had an assist, and Emily Esser tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team to a 5-1 PSAC Western Division victory over Clarion, Wednesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.  The Mountain Cats picked up their first win of the year and improved to 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference-play.
 
LaDuke's header off of a Olivia Gaspersic cross 17 minutes in put Pitt-Johnstown in front, before Esser finished Kierra Miller's cross eight minutes later to make it 2-0.
 
Clarion cut the deficit in half when Madison Spitko beat Mountain Cat goalkeeper Maria Mosquera in the 34th minute, but Pitt-Johnstown increased it to 3-1 at the half on Jenna Brown's first collegiate goal from Esser's first assist of the day.
 
7432The Mountain Cats, who outshot the Golden Eagles 30-9, added two more unanswered goals in the second half.  Gaspersic and Esser set up LaDuke's second goal of the match in the 66th minute, and Landree Wilkin scored her first goal when she finished LaDuke's rebound off of Clarion goalkeeper Brigid Stermel.
 
Mosquera played the first 84 minutes in goal for the Mountain Cats and held Clarion to one goal.  Mosquera made three saves.  Sachi Negri played the final six minutes and made one save for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Stermel took the loss for Clarion, which fell to 1-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the PSAC West, after facing 30 shots, making nine saves, and allowing all five goals.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will be back in action with a PSAC match at Seton Hill on Saturday, before hosting a conference match against Mercyhurst on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
