
After winning a pair of 25-22 sets to open the match, Shippensburg went on to a 25-15 victory in the third set to sweep a PSAC match over the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
Caitlin Vrabel had a match-high 13 kills for the Mountain Cats, who slipped to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC Western Division.
Grace Miller's kill gave Pitt-Johnstown an early 8-2 lead in the opening set, but Shippensburg battled back to knot it at 21 on a kill from Gianna Sigado. The Raiders then took the lead at 22-21 and used another kill from Sigado and a Mountain Cat attack error to take the set, 25-22.
In the second set, the Raiders jumped out to a 12-6 advantage, before Pitt-Johnstown answered with a with a 14-7 run to regain the lead by one on
Tatiana Pitcher's kills and
Jaden Gray's service ace. However, back-to-back kills by Samantha Webber put Shippensburg back on top and Emily Hangen's kills gave the Raiders another 25-22 win.
Pitt-Johnstown fell behind early in the final set, but Vrabel's kill got the Mountain Cats back to within one at 12-11, but that was as close as it would get. The Raiders went on to outscore Pitt-Johnstown 13-4 the rest of the way, including Kendall Johnson's kill that gave Shippensburg a 25-15 victory and closed out the sweep.
Vrabel led everyone with 13 kills, while
Cassie Pascarella added six kills for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also got six kills and four digs from Miller, four kills and seven digs from Pitcher, and three kills and a pair of blocks from
Anna Johns.
J.C. Longeville finished with a team-high 30 set assists, while
Erin Carmody had a team-high 14 digs for the Mountain Cats.
Sigado and Webber each had 12 kills and Johnson added 11 kills to lead Shippensburg, which improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC Southeastern Division.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC matches at Millersville and West Chester next weekend, before returning home to host conference matches against East Stroudsburg on October 11 at 7 p.m. and Kutztown on October 12 at 1 p.m.
