Despite being outshot 13-7 by Pitt-Johnstown, Izzy Weigel's goal with five minutes remaining in the first half proved to be the match-winner that lifted Shippensburg to a 1-0 non-conference victory over the Mountain Cats in Thursday's season-opener in Shippensburg.
Weigel's goal off of Casey Bell's centering pass in the 40
th minute gave Shippensburg a 1-0 advantage at the half.
That goal was all Shippensburg goalkeeper Delaney Shifflett would need. Shifflett earned the shutout in net for the Raiders after facing 13 Pitt-Johnstown shots and making six saves.
Maria Mosquera suffered the tough loss for the Mountain Cats. Mosquera saw seven shots, made a pair of saves, but allowed the match's lone goal.
With the win, the Raiders are now, 1-0-0.
