Fast Start, Balanced Scoring Lead Mountain Cats to 77-57 PSAC Win at California (PA)

Mulbah, FredPitt-Johnstown, ranked ninth in the most recent D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll, raced out to a 17-point first half advantage and had four players score in double figures in a 77-57 PSAC road win at California (PA) on Friday.  Fred Mulbah's 16 points, five rebounds and five assists led the way for the Mountain Cats, who made it four straight wins over the Vulcans and improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC West.
 
Along with Mulbah, John Paul Kromka had 13 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high five blocks, Caiden Landis had 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds, and Josh Wise scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Head Coach Bob Rukavina who moved to within four victories of 500 in his Pitt-Johnstown tenure.  The Mountain Cats also got seven points from nine points and six rebounds from Joe Batt and seven points from Drew Magestro.
 
The Mountain Cats hit nine of their first 11 shots, including a pair of 3-pointers from Mulbah and back-to-back baskets from Landis, to run out to a 20-9 lead 7:30 Kromka, John Paulinto the opening half.
 
After Batt's putback at the 10-minute mark increased the lead to 13, California (PA) scored the next five to cut it to 24-16 on a Luke House layup.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, which shot 56% and held the Vulcans to just 29% in the first half, answered right back with an 11-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by Adam Kline's 3-pointer and another bucket from Batt, to build the lead to 35-18.
 
The Mountain Cats held the double digit lead the rest of the way and went into the halftime break leading 41-25 Kromka's dunk.
 
Landis, CaidenA steal and lay-up from Mulbah closed out a 16-5 run over the first six minutes of the second half and built the Mountain Cat lead to 57-30.
 
California (PA) tried to get back in it and scored 10 straight points to get the deficit down to 17, then to 13 on a Zyan Collins jumper with 7:48 to play.
 
However, Pitt-Johnstown didn't let it get any closer and coasted to the 20-point win.
 
After shooting 59 percent in the opening half, the Mountain Cats ended the night at an even 50% (29-58).  Pitt-Johnstown, which held a 43-22 advantage on the glass, was 5-16 from behind the arc and 14-17 from the charity stripe.  California (PA) shot just 29.2% (19-65) from the floor, including just 6-34 from 3-point range.  The Vulcans were 13-19 from the free-throw line.
 
Wise, JoshCollins scored a game-high 17 points, Brent Pegram had 13 points, and House collected 12 points and six rebounds for California (PA), which dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will open the Spring Semester with a PSAC doubleheader with the women's team against Gannon, Monday night in the Sports Center.  The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., before the Mountain Cats take on the Golden Knights at 7:30 p.m.
