John Paul Kromka, who has a 3.92 overall GPA in Engineering, was named a 2019-20 CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American when this year's teams were released on Tuesday.Â

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams' program.

Grand Valley State University senior center Cassidy Boensch and Pace University senior forward Peyton Wejnert headline the Academic All-America® Division II Men's and Women's Basketball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Kromka, a native of Monroeville, Pa. and a graduate on Gateway High School, was a First-Team All-PSAC West selection and the PSAC West Defensive Player of the year for the second straight season. He finished his sophomore season as the Mountain Cats' leading scorer (15.2 ppg.) and rebounder (8.3 rpg.). He also led the team in field goal percentage (61.4%), free-throws made and attempted (104-139), and blocked shots (78).

In the most recent NCAA national statistics, Kromka, a five-time PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week and a three-time PSAC West Athlete of the Week in 2019-20, ranks fifth in total blocks (78), eighth in blocks per game (2.52), 16
th in field goal percentage (61.4%), and 40
th in total rebounds (257).

In just two seasons at Pitt-Johnstown, Kromka has scored 918 points and pulled down 489 rebounds.

Eleven of the 15 members of the 2019-20 Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with one student-athlete maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97.
