Olivia Porter went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, but Stonehill (MA) College used a three-run fifth inning to regain the lead in a 5-2 victory over Pitt-Johnstown, in Monday's first game in Florida. The Mountain Cats are 2-1.
Pitt-Johnstown got off to a quick start with Porter's lead-off home run in the bottom of the first.
The Mountain Cats held that lead until the top of the fourth when Caroline Casey's sacrifice fly knotted it.
Bree Ginther led Pitt-Johnstown's half of the fourth off with a double. Ginther moved to third on
Colebe Oliver's ground ball and scored on a Stonehill error.
However, the Skyhawks answered with three in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Genna Hartman, and run scoring doubles from Michelle Theilgard and Julia Hartman.
Stonehill tacked on another run in the seventh to close out the 5-2 win.
Porter finished with two hits, including a solo home run, while Ginther doubled and scored a run for Pitt-Johnstown.
Jade Stubblefield also had a hit for the Mountain Cats.
Kristen Coffay took the loss and slipped to 1-1 after allowing five runs and striking out one in the complete-game.
