Cassie Pascarella collected a match-high 13 kills to lead a trio of Mountain Cats who finished with double digit kills in a 25-14, 25-23, 27-25 PSAC Western Division sweep over Seton Hill, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown snapped a three-match losing skid and improved to 10-4 overall and 3-3 in conference-play.
Pitt-Johnstown used a kill from
Grace Miller and a Seton Hill attack error to climb out to an 11-7 first set lead. The Griffins got to within two on Paige Cole and Katie Koziarz kills, but the Mountain Cats quickly regained control and got kills
Elizah Wilson and
Adiamar Beaz in a 5-0 run that pushed it out to 21-12 on their way to the 25-14.
Four straight points broke a six-all second set tie and put Seton Hill on top 10-6, before Pitt-Johnstown answered with the next seven points, including three kills from Miller and a pair of kills from
Lauren Gechter, to retake the lead by three. The Griffins battled back to cut it to one on four occasions, with the last coming on Elizabeth Ward's kill, but Cassie followed with a kill of her own that gave the Mountain Cats a 25-23 victory and a 2-sets-to-none advantage.
In a tight third set, Pascarella's kill capped a 6-1 Pitt-Johnstown run that put the Mountain Cats in front 15-11. Seton Hill responded with the next four points to knot it at 15, before consecutive kills from Cole and Koziarz gave the lead back to the Griffins, 19-17. Pitt-Johnstown came back to tie it at 22 on Miller, Gechter, and Pascarella kills, before another kill from Pascarella made it 23-22. The Mountain Cats then took advantage of two more kills from Pascarella to hold off the Griffins, 27-25.
Along with Pascarella's 13 kills, Pitt-Johnstown also got 11 kills, seven digs, and a pair of blocks from
Grace Miller, 10 kills and two blocks from Gechter, and six kills from
Rebecca Miller.
Beaz led the way with a match-high 41 set assists and 12 digs, while Eric Carmody had five assists and a match-high 19 digs for the Mountain Cats.
Cole's team-highs of 10 kills and 14 digs paced Seton Hill, which slipped to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown visits Shippensburg for a non-conference match on Tuesday, before returning home to host PSAC West matches in the Sports Center against Indiana (PA) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Clarion on Saturday at 1 p.m.
