Fasick Nets Career-High 21 Points, but Pitt-Johnstown Loses to Davis & Elkins

Fasick_Olivia.jpgPitt-Johnstown guard Olivia Fasick scored a career-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough as Davis & Elkins College defeated Pitt-Johnstown 76-57 Saturday afternoon in the Jim Crawley Conference Challenge.

The Mountain Cats, who beat host Frostburg State University 60-55 in their opener Friday in Maryland, dropped to 1-1 on the season.

Fasick, a 5-foot-8 redshirt sophomore, connected on five field goals against Davis & Elkins, including three 3-pointers, and hit all eight free throws while playing 32 minutes at Bobcat Arena. 

She added four rebounds and four assists. Her previous high was 19 points against Seton Hill University on Jan. 25, 2020. 

Forward Ashley Norling and guard Makalyn Clapper contributed nine points each for the Mountain Cats.

Trailing 56-48 after three quarters, Pitt-Johnstown opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run and got within three points at 56-53 on Cassidy Crawford's 3-point play and Norling's jump shot at the 9:19 mark.

But Davis & Elkins, which improved to 1-1 after losing 90-61 to Shepherd University in its opener Friday, finished the game on a 20-4 run.

Dream Cherry led the Senators with 21 points, while Marissa Berlin, a 6-foot-3 sophomore forward, netted 20 points and pulled down 22 rebounds. Allie Taylor added 16 points.

Fasick and Berlin both scored 15 points each for their respective teams in the first half. 

Davis & Elkins led 43-32 at the intermission and 23-16 after the first quarter. 

The Pitt-Johnstown women's team makes its home debut on Wednesday as part of a non-conference doubleheader with the men's squad.  The women will host West Virginia State at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports Center, followed by the men against No. 14 West Liberty at 7:30 p.m.
