The Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball team got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 104-74 victory over host Allegheny College in a nonconference game.
Junior guard Jared Jakubick led the Mountain Cats with 23 points, hitting 5 of 7 shots from the field and all 11 free throws. He was one of five players in double digits for coach Bob Rukavina's team, which improved to 3-1 with the victory at the David V. Wise Center in Meadville.Â
Others scoring in double figures included guard Ryan Smith (19 points), guard Joe Batt and forward Caiden Landis (13 each) and guard Andy Zuchelli (10).
Forward John Paul Kromka was limited to eight points in 13 minutes. He remains 23 points shy of joining the 1,000-point club. Guard Fred Mulbah contributed 12 assists.Â
Guard Brian Roberts Jr. had a game-high 26 points for Allegheny, which trailed 47-34 at the half. The Gators dropped to 2-2 after their second consecutive loss.
The Mountain Cats shot 54.3 percent (39 of 72) from the floor and 57.1 percent (12 of 21) from 3-point range. Allegheny shot 34.5 percent (23 of 65) from the field and 38.5 percent (15 of 39) from behind the arc.
The Mountain Cats return to action Friday when they take on Salem (W.Va.) University at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the IUP Thanksgiving Classic. The Mountain Cats will battle Virginia State University at the same time Saturday.Â
