Women’s Soccer Wraps-Up 2021 Season With 3-1 PSAC Setback at Edinboro

Edinboro, PA

Dirienzo_Mia.JPGComing off of a victory and a draw in its last two matches, the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team was looking to close out the 2021 season on a high note.  However, Edinboro jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to a 3-1 PSAC Western Division win over the Mountain Cats, Wednesday evening in Edinboro.  Mia Dirienzo accounted for the Pitt-Johnstown goal, as the Mountain Cats' season came to an end at 5-11-2 overall and 4-10-2 in conference-play.

With 13:33 remaining in the opening half, Lexi Boyk took a pass from Reece Enochs and found the back of the net to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 advantage.

Edinboro then made it 2-0 at the break on a Haydn Paxton penalty kick at the 3:13 mark.

Pitt-Johnstown quickly cut the deficit in half on a Dirienzo header off of Emily Esser's assist less than four minutes into the second half, but the Fighting Scots Esser_Emily.JPGgot that goal back in the 61st minute and went on to the 3-1 victory.

Mountain Cat goalkeeper Sachi Negri took the loss after seeing 20 shots, making six saves, and allowing all three goals.

Anna Voelker picked-up the win in goal for Edinboro after surrendering just one goal.  Voelker faced a pair of Pitt-Johnstown shots and made one save.

The Fighting Scots, who clinched a spot in the upcoming PSAC Women's Soccer Championships with the victory, improved to 9-7-0 overall and 8-7-0 in the PSAC West.
