The Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball team rebounded from its first conference loss of the season with a 95-68 rout Sunday afternoon of Lock Haven University at the Sports Center.
A day after the Mountain Cats suffered their first PSAC setback, falling 76-62 at home to hot-shooting Shippensburg University, they put on their own impressive shooting display.
Pitt-Johnstown (8-3, 4-1 PSAC) hit 68.2 percent (15 of 22) of its 3-pointers and shot 58.1 percent overall (36 of 62) on the way to scoring 54 second-half points against the Bald Eagles in the league crossover game.
Junior forward John Paul Kromka, who joined the 1,000-point club earlier this year, matched his season high with 26 points. He was 12 of 18 shooting from the floor in 31 minutes of action. Kromka also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and handed out four assists.
Fred Mulbah contributed 14 points and 10 assists for the Mountain Cats, Joe Batt had 14 points and Ryan Smith added 11. The three guards were a combined 14 of 20 shooting from the floor and 9 of 10 from behind the arc.
Guard MarkAnthony Fidelis had 14 points to lead Lock Haven (4-5, 1-4 PSAC), which suffered its fourth consecutive loss. The Bald Eagles shot 42.3 percent (22 of 52) from the field and 37 percent (10 of 27) from 3-point range.
Pitt-Johnstown scored 22 points off turnovers and outscored Lock Haven 40-10 in the paint. The Mountain Cats also got 22 points off the bench.
Pitt-Johnstown, coached by Bob Rukavina, raced to a 41-28 halftime lead as Kromka (14 points), Mulbah (nine) and guard Drew Magestro (eight) combined for 31 of the Mountain Cats' 41 points.
Kromka made 6 of 9 shots, Magestro hit two 3-pointers and Mulbah sank three baskets, including a 3-pointer, in the opening 20 minutes.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 50 percent (15 of 30) from the floor in the first half and 55.6 percent (6 of 9) from behind the arc, while making all six free throws.
The Pitt-Johnstown men will break for the holidays before beginning PSAC West Division play Jan. 5 at Slippery Rock.
