Pitt-Johnstown Suffers Two PSAC Losses at Seton Hill

Greensburg, PA

Porter_OliviaSeton Hill took Sunday's PSAC Western Division opener 10-1 in five innings, before completing the four-game weekend series sweep against the Pitt-Johnstown softball team with a, 3-2, walk-off victory in the nightcap.  Olivia Porter had two hits and drove in two for the Mountain Cats, now 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC West.

The Griffins used three homeruns and a pair of five-run innings to take the opener, 10-1.

Seton Hill struck for five runs with two outs in the second inning off of Pitt-Johnstown starter Ashley Pagliei.  Allison Kapoll singled and scored on Madison Han's double to right-center, before Alexis Vargas connected for a two-run homer.  After a Jenna Osikowicz triple and a Lauren Dellett walk, Morgan Toal followed with a two-run double to make it 5-0.

The Griffins added five more runs in the fourth.  Vargas led off the inning with her second homerun of the day off of Mountain Cat reliever Kristen Coffay.  Seton Hill loaded the bases with one out, and Christiana Skrabak belted a grand slam to center to push it out to 10-0.

Pitt-Johnstown scratched out an unearned run in the top of the fifth.  Carly Santillo reached on a Seton Hill error, moved to second on Cassidy Kern's walk, and scored on Sydney Flinn's ground ball that was misplayed by the Griffins.

Kristie Radvan's double to right field with two outs in the Pitt-Johnstown top of the first accounted for the Mountain Cats' lone hit.

Ashley Pagliei got the start in the circle for the Mountain Cats and slipped to 0-2 after giving up five runs on eight hits over the first two innings.  Pagliei struck out two and walked one.  Coffay pitched the final two innings and allowed five runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking two.

Seton Hill's Dellett improved to 6-1 after holding Pitt-Johnstown to an unearned run on one hit.  Dellett struck out six and didn't allow a walk.

In game two, the Mountain Cats erased a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but Seton Hill was able to walk-off with a 3-2 victory with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Pitt-Johnstown's Alyssa Hileman and Seton Hill's Lauren Bertig locked-up in a scoreless pitcher's duel until the Griffins scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Kapoll reached on a two-base error, and scored from second on Samantha Estupinian's single to right-center.  Estupinian moved to second on another error, before Vargas singled-home pinch-runner Natalia Greco to give Seton Hill a 2-0 lead.

Pitt-Johnstown came back to tie it in the seventh.  Bree Ginther and Lauren Gohacki started the Mountain Cats' seventh inning with base hits.  Laura Fox's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, and Porter's two run single off of Seton Hill reliever Logan Hartman knotted it at two.

However, Kapoll led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and moved to third on Estupinian's bunt single.  Hartman then reached on a fielder's choice allowing Kapol to score from third to give the Griffins the 3-2, walk-off win.

Hileman suffered the tough loss and fell to 1-3 after surrendering three runs (1 earned) on seven hits in six-plus innings.  Hileman struck out three and didn't give up a walk.

Porter went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI for Pitt-Johnstown, while Ali Belgiovane, Kristie Radvan, Santillo, Ginther, and Gohacki also had hits for the Mountain Cats.

Hartman (4-0) picked-up the win in relief to help Seton Hill improve to 11-3 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC West.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Clarion on Friday to open a four-game, home-and-home PSAC series against the Golden Eagles, before closing out the series at V.E. Erickson Complex on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
