Johnstown, PA

Heid_DylanDylan Heid tossed a no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team to a 1-0 season-opening victory over West Liberty (WV) University in Saturday's first game of a doubleheader at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.  The Mountain Cats completed the sweep with a 13-0 win in game two behind more strong pitching and Mario Disso's five RBI.

Four Pitt-Johnstown pitchers held West Liberty scoreless over 14 innings and allowed just one hit, a leadoff triple in the Hilltoppers half of the third in game two.

In the opener, Heid, a senior right-hander, held the Hilltoppers hitless and fanned 13 in the complete-game effort.  Heid, who needed 93 pitches in the no-hitter, faced 24 hitters, walked three, and hit one.  Dylan Broderick's acrobatic catch in right field sealed the Mountain Cat victory and Heid's no-hitter.

The Mountain Cats broke a scoreless tie with the game's lone run in the bottom of the fourth after Lennox Pugh reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Tyler Smith's triple to the gap in right center.

Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Jake Ansell and Disso accounted for Pitt-Johnstown's four hits.

West Liberty's Justin Pennybacker pitched six innings, allowed just one run on four hits, while striking out three and walking one.

In the nightcap, the Mountain Cats sent 13 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first and came away with eight runs (5 earned), highlighted Disso's two run single.

Disso then drove three with a triple in the Pitt-Johnstown second, and Smith's two-run blast over the centerfield wall in the third increased it to 13-0.

Joel Colledge got the start for the Mountain Cats and did not allow a run over the first five innings.  Colledge surrendered just one hit, Jarrett Delbrugge triple to lead off the top of the third inning.  He also fanned six and walked two.  Antonio Caporossi and Giovanni Scott each pitched an inning and didn't not allow a hit.

Disso Singled, tripled and drove in five, while Smith had two hits, including a two-run homer, and three RBI for the Mountain Cats.  Colin Pasone added two hits and an RBI, and Owen McKeever had a pair of hits.

With the losses, the Hilltoppers fell to 0-5.
