Pitt-Johnstown rebounded from an 11-2 loss in Saturday's PSAC Western Division baseball opener at Indiana (PA) with a 3-1 win in the nightcap behind strong pitcher from
Brady Walker and
Raymond Watt. The Mountain Cats took 3-of-4 from the Crimson Hawks in the weekend series and are now 12-8 overall and 8-4 in conference-play.
In the opener, IUP ran out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and cruised to the 11-2 victory.
Nick Hess' three-run homer off of
Wil Fetrow in the bottom of the first put the Crimson Hawks on top, before Hess doubled home two more in the second to increase it to 5-0.
Pitt-Johnstown got two runs back in the top of the third. Jake Anssell's ground out plated
Owen McKeever, before
Asher Corl's sacrifice fly chased home
Alex Glumac.

IUP got a run in the third on a Colin Williams RBI double, before Chris Eisel's two-run homerun to left in the bottom of the fourth made it 8-2.
A run in the fifth and two more in the sixth set the final at 11-2.
Glumac went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, while Ansell and Corl accounted for the two Pitt-Johnstown RBI.
Wil Fetrow suffered the loss and fell to 0-2 after surrendering six runs (5 earned) on six hits over the first 2.2 innings.
In game two, Walker and Watt held the Crimson to a run on just two hits to get the split with the 3-1 victory.
IUP jumped out to an early lead on Hess' RBI double in the bottom of the first, but the Mountain Cats tied it in the top of the fourth on
Tyler Treese's double to center that plated
Chase Vargo.
Lennox Pugh's single up the middle in the Pitt-Johnstown fifth scored Ansell to give the Mountain Cats the lead, and Treese scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 3-1.
That's all Pitt-Johnstown would need. Walker tossed the first 4.2 innings and limited IUP to a run on two hits to improve to 2-0. Walker struck out seven and walked one. Watt held the Crimson Hawks hitless over the final 2.1 innings to earn his second save of the season. Watt fanned five and didn't allow a walk.
Treese had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while
Tyler Smith had two hits, and Pugh singled and drove in a run for the Mountain Cats.
With the split, IUP is now 2-18 overall and 1-11 in the PSAC West.
The Mountain Cats travel to California (PA) on Friday to start a four-game home-and-home conference series, before returning home to wrap-up the series with a doubleheader at Sargent's Stadium at the Point on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
