
Shippensburg scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off with a 6-5 victory in the opener, then used a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to complete the non-conference sweep with a 10-8 walk-off win over Pitt-Johnstown in the nightcap, Tuesday afternoon in Shippensburg.
Olivia Porter drove in four on the day, and
Tori Radvan belted solo homer for the Mountain Cats, who slipped to 5-19.
In the opener, Porter's RBI single in the top of the seventh broke a four-all tie, but Shippensburg came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off with the 6-5 win.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 first inning lead with an unearned run on Hannah Marsteller's RBI single, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with two unearned runs in the top of the third.
Cassidy Kern led off with a double and
Ali Belgiovane reached on an error. Porter followed with a one-out single to center that plated Kern, before
Taylor Mendicino's RBI ground out allowed Belgiovane to score.
Maelynn Leber's two-out single through the left in the Raiders' half of the third scored Marsteller to knot it at two, and Marsteller's solo homer to center to lead off the bottom of the fifth gave the lead back to Shippensburg.
The Mountain Cats answered with two in the top of the sixth to take regain the lead. Radvan walked and
Jade Stubblefield reached on an infield single. Stubblefield stole second and scored behind Radvan on
Bree Ginther double to centerfield that put Pitt-Johnstown in front, 4-3.
Shippensburg quickly tied it in its half of the sixth when Morgan DeFeo drove home Cori Ritter with a base hit.
The Mountain Cats weren't done and retook the top of the sixth. Belgiovane singled, moved to second on
Maddie Flowers' sacrifice bunt, and scored the go ahead run on Porter's second RBI single of the day.
However, with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Shippensburg put runners on second and third on back-to-back singles and a Mountain Cat error. Lacey Hunter's RBI single through the left side tied it at five, and DeFeo followed two batters later with a base hit that chased home Ritter to give the Raiders the walk-off victory.
Kristen Coffay pitched all 6.2 innings, but took the loss and slipped to 4-7. Coffay allowed six runs (5 earned) on 14 hits, struck out two, and walked three.
Porter went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Ginter doubled and drove in two, and Mendicino had an RBI for the Mountain Cats. Belgiovane had a base hit and scored two runs. Kern doubled, and
Carly Santillo and Stubblefield each had hits.
In game two, Pitt-Johnstown erased an 8-3 deficit with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh, but Shippensburg walked-off with the 10-8 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Two straight RBI singles from Courtney Coy and Toni Jones in the bottom of the second gave the Raiders a 2-0 advantage and chased Pitt-Johnstown starter
Ashley Pagliei for
Julie Shinavski, who made her collegiate debut and was able to get out of the inning without any more damage.
Marsteller's fielder's choice scored Taylor Radziewicz from third in the Shippensburg third inning, but Pitt-Johnstown scratched out a run in the top of the fourth. Radvan led off with a double to left-center and came around to score on Mendicino's base hit.
Porter's sacrifice in the fifth scored Belgiovane, who doubled to start the inning, to cut it to 3-2.
The Raiders came right back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Coy's one-out grand slam to left-center.
The Mountain Cats battled back with three runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI single from
Lauren Gohacki scored
Laura Fox, and Flowers came across on a Shippensburg error. Porter then collected her second Sacrifice fly of the day that plated Goahacki and made it 8-5.
Pitt-Johnstown continued to its comeback. Radvan's homer to center to start the top of the seventh made it 8-6. Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases with one out and Belgiovane's ground out scored Coffay, who entered the game as a pinch runner, to make it a run one game, and Kern followed with a pinch-hit RBI single to tie it at eight.
However, Shippensburg ended it with another walk-off. This time, Alyssa Nehlen connected for a two-out, two-run homer that lifted the Raiders to a 10-8 win.
Radvan was 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homerun, and Belgiovane doubled and drove in one for the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown also got two RBI from Porter, and one hit and one RBI each from Mendicino, Gohacki, and Kern.
Shinavski suffered the loss and fell to 0-1 after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings in relief. Pagliei pitched one-plus inning and surrendered two runs on five hits.
With the sweep, the Raiders improved to 17-13.
This weekend's series against California (PA) and Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader against Bowie State have been postponed. Pitt-Johnstown will travel to Millersville for a non-conference doubleheader on April 20, before going to Slippery Rock to begin a four-game home-and home PSAC Western Division series on April 23.
