Pitt-Johnstown junior forward
John Paul Kromka was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® II Men's Basketball Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) when this year's teams were released on Thursday. Kromka, who has a 3.94 GPA in Mechanical Engineering, will advance to the national ballot for voting to become an Academic All-American.
Â
As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic altering the 2020-21 NCAA Division II men's and women's basketball seasons, this year's Academic All-District Teams were based on each individual's career statistics.
Â
The Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Â
Kromka, a native of Monroeville, Pa. and a graduate of Gateway High School, has started 61 career games for Head Coach
Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats and has averaged 15.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting 62.5% from the field.
Â
Kromka was a 2019-20 Second-Team National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D2CCA All-Atlantic Region selection and a Third-Team CoSIDA Academic American. He is also a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Player of Year, a 2019-20 First-Team All-PSAC West and a 2018-19 2nd-Team All-PSAC West selection.
Â
In 2019-20, Kromka paced the PSAC in Field Goal Percentage (61.4%), Blocks Per Game (2.62), and Total Blocks (78).
