Mountain Cats End 2021 Season With Pair of PSAC Losses at No. 7 Seton Hill

Greensburg, PA

Broderick_DylanPitt-Johnstown's 2021 season came to an end on Saturday with 11-1 and 10-3 PSAC Western Division setbacks at seventh-ranked Seton Hill.  Dylan Broderick collected four hits, including a solo homerun for the Mountain Cats, 16-20 overall and 12-16 in conference-play.

In game one, the Griffins opened-up a 9-0 lead after two innings with the help of four solo homeruns on their way to the 11-1 win.

Seton Hill struck for four runs in the bottom of the first off of Mountain Cat starter Wil Fetrow.  Back-to-back, one-out, solo homers from Tommy Pellis and Derek Orndorff gave the Griffins the lead, before Tanner Froehlich doubled home a run, and Tyler Peterson's RBI ground out made it to 4-0.

A solo homerun to lead off the bottom of second from Canice Ejoh chased Fetrow and brought Ben Briggs in to pitch for the Mountain Cats.  Owen Sabol connected for a solo homer to left-center, and Seton Hill scored three more runs after that in the inning to push it out to 9-0.

Broderick doubled with one out in the top of the fourth, moved to third on a Lennox Pugh base hit, and scored on Tyler Smith's sacrifice fly to get Pitt-Johnstown on the scoreboard.

The Griffins went on to add an unearned run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Fetrow fell to 1-5 after surrendering five runs on four hits in one inning.  Briggs tossed the next four innings for Pitt-Johnstown and allowed six runs (3 earned) on five hits, while striking out seven and walking one, and Alec Petroff fanned two in a scoreless sixth inning.

Broderick doubled, Tyler Smith Pugh had a base hit, and Alex Glumac had a bunt single for the Mountain Cats.

Six Seton Hill pitchers limited Pitt-Johnstown to a run on four hits.

In game two, Seton Hill used a five run third inning to break open a one-run game on its way to completing the series sweep with the 10-3 win.

Sabol scored on a Brady Walker wild pitch to give the Griffins a 1-0 first inning lead, but the Mountain Cats quickly tied it in the second after Asher Corl led off with a ground rule double to the gap in left-center and scored on a Seton Hill throwing error.

The Griffins regain the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.  Sabol drew a one-out bases loaded walk, and Pellis followed with an RBI single up the middle.

Corl's two-out double down the left field line in the top of the third chased home Broderick from first to cut it to 3-2.

However, Seton Hill answered right back with five runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 8-2.

Broderick's solo homer in the fifth narrowed it to 8-3, but that was as close as it would get.

Walker dropped to 2-3 after giving up eight runs on five hits over the first 2.1 innings.

Broderick went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun and Corl had two doubles, an RBI, and a run for Pitt-Johnstown.

With the four-game series sweep, Seton Hill improved to 31-4 overall and 23-4 in the PSAC West.
