
The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team swept Caldwell (NJ) University Saturday afternoon to go 4-0 at the East Stroudsburg Invitational behind All-Tournament Team selections
Lualis Alvarado's match-high 11 kills and six digs and
Lauren Gechter's 10 kills and two blocks. The Mountain Cats, who have won five straight matches after a season-opening loss, are now 5-1.
Gechter and Alvarado were joined on the All-Tournament Team by Ali Finch (East Stroudsburg), Kaylee LoPresto (East Stroudsburg), Lauren Casey (Saint Anselm), and Sydney Wilson (Kutztown).
The Mountain Cats cruised to the sweep over Caldwell with 25-7, 25-15, and 25-14 victories.
Along with Gechter and Alvarado's efforts, Pitt-Johnstown got eight kills, two service aces, and seven digs from
Grace Miller, eight kills from
Katelyn Courtney, and six kills from
Cassie Pascarella.
Adiamar Beaz tallied 42 more set assists and six digs, while
Erin Carmody and
Lexi Pendergraft finished with 13 and six digs, respectively.
Reese Sherwood led Caldwell, which fell to 0-3, with eight kills.
The Mountain Cats travel to a Tri-Match at Frostburg State (MD) on Saturday. Before opening PSAC-West play with a match at Slippery Rock on September 21. Pitt-Johnstown will make its 2021 home debut with a conference match against Mercyhurst on September 25 at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center.
