
Drew Magestro had himself a memorable night in Pitt-Johnstown's first time back in the Sports Center since Nov. 12.
The redshirt senior guard poured in a career-high 38 points, which also included a career-high nine 3-pointers, to help the Mountain Cats overwhelm Penn State-Schuylkill 106-57 in a non-conference matchup on Monday.
Magestro's nine triples gave him 161 for his career, and he passed Paul Byer (2002-05) to move into 11th place on Pitt-Johnstown's all-time list. He finished 14 of 22 from the floor and provided six rebounds and three assists.
Jared Jakubick added 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Mountain Cats, who improved to 4-2. Ryan Smith came up one assist shy of a triple-double as he finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Caiden Landis had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Mountain Cats led 11-6 after the first five minutes, but over the next 11-plus minutes, they outscored the Lions 31-8 to grab a commanding 42-14 lead with 3:47 remaining in the half. Pitt-Johnstown only extended its lead from there and went into the break up 54-20.
Pitt-Johnstown racked up 50 points in the paint and turned 22 turnovers by the Lions into 25 points.
As a team, the Mountain Cats shot 43 of 80 (53.8%) from the field, including 15 of 34 (44.1%) from deep. Will Kromka chipped in nine points and five rebounds, and Andy Zuchelli produced seven points and four boards.
Corchado Kente had a team-high 14 points for the Lions (1-8).
The Mountain Cats open up PSAC play with a visit to Bloomsburg scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
