Softball Improves to 6-1 with 6-2 Victory Over Saint Michael’s College

Florida

Miehl_Kayla.jpgKayla Miehl belted a grand slam to lead the Pitt-Johnstown softball team to its sixth victory in seven outings following Friday's, 6-2, win over Saint Michael's College of Vermont in Florida.

The Mountain Cats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first.  Taylor Mendicino's double chased home Olivia Porter to open the inning before Miehl connected for a grand slam later in the inning.

Saint Michael's tried to get back in it with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but Miehl delivered with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame to set the final at 6-2.

Miehl went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, a double and five RBI, while Mendicino had three hits, including a double and an RBI, and Porter added three hits for the Mountain Cats.

Julie Shinavski pitched a complete game to secure the win for Pitt-Johnstown.  Shinavski allowed two runs, scattered seven hits, struck out five, and walked one.

The Mountain Cats closes out their spring trip to Florida with games against East Stroudsburg and Stonehill on Saturday, before hosting D'Youville for a doubleheader in the 2022 home-opener on Wednesday at noon at V.E. Erickson Complex.
