The Pitt-Johnstown softball team belted three home runs, including a pair off the bat of
Taylor Mendicino, to open the 2022 season with a 7-3 victory over American International (MA) College, Sunday morning at The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla.
Â
Sunday's second game scheduled for 11:15 a.m. against Lindenwood was cancelled due to a lack of umpires.
Â
The Mountain Cats used two homers from Mendicino and one from
Carly Santillo to build a 7-2 lead in the fifth inning, before going on to the 7-3 victory.
Â
Along with Mendicino and Santillo's efforts, Pitt-Johnstown also got two hits, including a double and an RBI from
Tori Radvan, and one RBI each from
Julia Mooney and
Lauren Gohacki.
Â
Alyssa Hileman pitched a complete-game in the circle for the Mountain Cats to pick up the win. Hileman allowed three runs, scattered seven hits, and struck out one.
Â
The Mountain Cats continue their Spring Trip to Florida with games against Wayne State (NE) College on Monday at 10 a.m. and Chestnut Hill College on Monday at 12:15 p.m.
