John Paul Kromka Garners Second Straight PSAC Winter Top-10 Accolade

Kromka_John_Paul.jpgThe awards continue to mount for Pitt-Johnstown junior basketball standout John Paul Kromka.  On Tuesday, Kromka, an All-American on the court and a two-time First-Team Academic All-American in the classroom, earned a spot of the 2021-22 PSAC Winter Top-10 list for the second consecutive season.

The PSAC Winter Top-10 award winners were chosen and voted on by the league's sports information directors. The PSAC Top-10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition.

Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the Top 10 is given to five males and five females in each athletic season; fall, winter and spring.

This year's PSAC Winter Top-10 recipients include:

In 2021-22, Kromka, a six-time PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week, earned First-Team NABC All-America honors, his third straight West Defensive Athlete of the Year honor and his third straight All-PSAC West honor after being named to the second team as a freshman and the first team in both 2019-20 and 2021-22.

The 2018-19 PSAC West Freshman of the Year also led Pitt-Johnstown in scoring (17.5 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg.), field goal percentage (67.7%), and blocks (88), and was second in assists (87) and third in steals.
 
Kromka, a Second-Team NABC All-Atlantic Region performer in 2019-20 on the court and a two-time First-Team Academic All-American, led NCAA Division II in total blocks (88), paced the PSAC and ranked fourth nationally in blocked shots per game (2.90) and fifth in field goal percentage (67.7%).

On November 30, the Monroeville, Pa. native and Gateway High School graduate scored 22 points at Malone (OH) to become the Mountain Cats' 32nd 1,000-point scorer.  He currently stands in 11th-place on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Scoring List with 1,443 points and in fourth-place on All-Time Rebounding List with 732 rebounds.
