Mountain Cats Split Two Extra Inning Games With PSAC West Champs Gannon to End Season

Broderick_Dylan.jpgDylan Broderick's RBI double in the top of the 10th proved to be the game-winner that lifted Pitt-Johnstown to a 5-4 victory over PSAC Western Division Champion Gannon in Sunday's first game of a season-ending doubleheader at Point Stadium.  The Golden Knights got the split with a 6-5 win in eight innings in the nightcap.  The Mountain Cats' season came to an end at 20-27-1 overall and 7-21 in the PSAC West.
 
In game one, Lennox Pugh's three-run homer in the top of the eighth broke a 1-1 tie to put the Mountain Cats on top.
 
Gannon answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to knot it at four, but Pitt-Johnstown was able to pick up a run in the top of the 10th after Justin Turcovski walked to lead off the inning and scored on Broderick's one-out double down the left field line.
 
Along with Pugh's three-run home run, Broderick went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Mountain Cats.
 
Pugh_Lennox.jpgFour Pitt-Johnstown pitchers limited Gannon to four runs on three hits over the 10-innings.  Ben Briggs started are went the first seven innings.  Briggs allowed one run on two hits, while striking out nine and walking one.  Jared Hoener earned the win and improved to 2-1 after tossing two hitless innings to close it out.
 
In game two, the Mountain Cats took a 5-3 lead with a run in the fourth and two ore in the fifth on a RBI double from Pugh and Owen McKeever's fielder's choice that allowed Pugh to score.
 
However, the Golden Knights tied it a five with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, before Brandon Wetherholt's one-out single to right field in the bottom of the eighth chased home Seth Sanders to life Gannon to the 6-5 win.
 
Colin Pasone led-off the Pitt-Johnstown half of the third inning with a solo home run and drove in two, and Mario Disso went 3-for-5 for the Mountain Cats.   Josh Reynolds had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Turcovski collected two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.

Luke Schrock suffered the loss in relief after giving up one run on two hits and striking out three in 1.1 innings.  Wil Fetrow started and surrendered four runs on seven hits in five innings.
 
Gannon enters the PSAC Tournament as the top seed in the Western Division at 29-14 overall and 20-8 in conference-play.
